Emergency Eye Care Halifax

Emergency Care

Immediate care for sudden changes to your vision, eye infections, allergies or injuries impacting your eyes, vision or optical health.

Emergency Eye Care

Any sudden changes to your vision or problematic symptoms, such as severe eye pain, itching, burning or stinging, irritation, discharge or light sensitivity, may require emergency eye care treatment.

The most common eye emergencies include:

Physical Trauma

Any impact or physical force inflicted on the eye or eye area, such as a black eye, or other symptoms like swelling or bleeding. You can treat this by placing a cold compress over the area and seek emergency medical care.

Chemical Exposure

Some chemicals, such as bleach, vinegar or battery acid, may cause a healthcare emergency when exposed to your eyes. If this happens, immediately flush your eyes with cool, clean water for 15 minutes and seek emergency medical care.

Rips, Tears and Punctures

Any rip, tear or puncture to your eye is a severe emergency and requires immediate medical attention. If this happens, apply an eye shield to protect the eye area and seek immediate medical care, such as an emergency room.

Foreign Objects

Any foreign object in your eye, such as dust, dirt, metal, wood, or anything else, can become logged in your eye and cause problems. Do not rub your eyes, as this may make it worse. Instead, try blinking to help move it from your eye, or flush your eyes with cool, clean water.

Our Emergency Eye Care Process

If you are facing an eye care emergency, please remain calm and take immediate action. First, any chemicals or foreign objects in your eyes need to be flushed out immediately with cool, clean water. Avoid rubbing or putting pressure on the affected eye, as this may worse your symptoms.

If you have a cut or puncture, protect it from further injury or contamination by covering your eye with a clean, sterile bandage or cloth without applying pressure. Recognizing the symptoms of an eye emergency is crucial for prompt intervention.

If you’re experiencing any sudden changes to your vision, eye pain or any other problem requiring emergency eye care, contact our clinic to book an appointment immediately.

Our Advanced Technology

Eye Doc Optometry is proud to offer advanced state-of-the-art technology to diagnose, assess and treat your ocular health.

This ultra-wide retinal camera takes an HD image of the back of your eye. This exam allows us to see early signs of eye diseases, like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease, as well as other health conditions, like stroke, diabetes or others.

An OCT takes a cross-section image of your retina, which shows us a detailed view of your retina’s thin layers to detect early signs of eye diseases, like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic eye diseases.

An anterior segment camera takes HD photos of the eye’s anterior segment, which includes the cornea, iris, ciliary body, and lens. These images allow us to see several eye diseases, including cataracts, corneal conditions, macular degeneration and pterygium.

A perimetry test or visual field exam assesses your entire field of vision to determine potential vision loss from diseases like glaucoma.

LipiScan provides dynamic Meibomian imaging quickly and accurately, helping us ensure a comfortable experience for our patients.
