Dr. Peter Murphy

Dr. Murphy has always had an interest in optics, ever since he first learned about it from his grandfather while sailing. He pursued Optometry at the University of Waterloo and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Doctorate in Optometry in 1992.

Dr. Murphy began his career in Waterloo working for a large chain of Optometry clinics. Although he enjoyed the experience working with his patients, he was disappointed the environment did not allow him to dedicate his time to put the patient first. He decided to move back to his hometown of Halifax and start his own practice in 2005: Eye Doc Optometry.

Dr. Murphy’s passion for optometry attracted new partners to join the practice and expand into a second location in 2018. He has been involved as a member of the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists (NSAO) and is dedicated to giving back to his community.

When he’s not busy working, Dr. Murphy enjoys spending time with his family, his wife of 40 years, Carol, their three daughters and four grandkids. They spend time traveling, cycling and sailing around the coast.

Dr. Davis has been passionate about healthcare her whole life, growing up in an environment of doctors and dentists. She began her studies in medicine but decided to switch to Optometry and completed a Bachelor of Science and Doctorate in Optometry at the Dalhousie University in 2002.

Dr. Davis completed post graduate training in glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, corneal disease and ocular trauma. Her special interests are in family practice, pediatrics, myopia control, and the management of corneal diseases including medically necessary speciality contact lens fittings.

Dr. Davis stays involved in professional development as being an active member of the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists, sitting on committees, such as the Public Education and Community Outreach committees.

When she’s not busy at the practice, Dr. Davis enjoys spending time with her partner, cooking delicious food and playing with their two hyperactive dogs.

Dr. Austin was raised in an environment of university educators that instilled a passion to learn, especially about science. Dr. Austin earned a scholarship to Mount Allison University to complete a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours. He then completed a Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 2006.

Dr. Austin was captain of his varsity swim team in university and went on to compete in several international tournaments. He was awarded the Leadership Award in 2005 and has held several leadership roles within the Canadian Association of Optometry Students.

Dr. Austin is passionate about educating patients in how to best improve their vision, including fitting scleral contact lenses. These lenses support patients with corneal disease, high prescriptions and dry eyes.

Outside of work, Dr. Austin stays active by continuing a daily practice of swimming, and enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. They enjoy figure skating around the lakes of Halifax.

Mary grew up in an environment of opticians and nurses and has always had a passion for fashionable eyeglasses and sunglasses. She studied Business Administration at the University of New Brunswick and completed her degree in 2015. She began working in a clinic with one doctor, learning how to manage different aspects of the practice.

She moved to Halifax in 2020 and joined Eye Doc Optometry in 2021 as the Office Manager and loves working with the team. She’s able to share her passion for fashionable eyewear with her team and clients, while helping the team of doctors support the patient experience.

When she’s not busy working, Mary enjoys spending time with her partner, going out dancing, and practicing yoga.
